Description | The "Red House" was the grounds of the St. George's Cricket Club, the city's most prominent cricket club, along with a race track. Wikipedia locates these grounds at 1st Ave. between 105th and 106th Sts., in the Harlem neighborhood. For more on the location, see John Thorn's article in the OurGame blog at https://ourgame.mlblogs.com/the-lost-ball-club-and-its-lost-home-b25889f1d69b The blog says the Gotham club started using the Red House as a ball field as early as 1849, and that the last game there was in 1867. The New York Clipper, April 21, 1860 lists the Baltic and Harlem clubs as using these grounds. Sickles brigade use these grounds as a camp in 1861 |
