Description | The Holston Club was represented at the first meeting of the Tennessee Base Ball Convention, in May of 1867. The Memphis Appeal, September 18, 1867 passes along a Knoxville Whig article on a game between the Holston of Knoxville and the Mountain City of Chattanooga for the state championship. The Holston Club won the series 2 gams to 1. The club disbanded soon after losing the state championship in 1868 to a Nashville club. Knoxville's population in 1870 was about 8700. Knoxville is about 100 miles NE of Chattanooga. |

Comment | Mostly Confederate sympathizers, many too young to have fought in the war. The club probably named after the Holston River (the then-name for the Tennessee River, which flows past Knoxville). Their home grounds were near Cripple (now First) Creek, and William Hardy says the location was about where the new Smokies Stadium is being built. Edit with form to add a comment |

Win/Loss Records As Far As We Now Know
Warning: Users should not rely on a team's won-loss record as a reflection of its "standing" among all base ball clubs. Team schedules were not balanced, and a good record against mostly weak opponents does not signify a leading club.
