| Description | The Union Grounds, arguably the nation's first enclosed baseball grounds, opened in May of 1862 in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. It was the home of the Eckford Club, among others. The ball grounds was built on a large block bounded by Harrison Avenue, Rutledge Street, Lynch Street, and Marcy Avenue, near modern Juan Morel Compos school. |
