Description | Morris, Base Ball Pioneers p. 123 lists the following clubs as existing in Pittsburgh in 1866: Anchor, Atlantic, Eureka, Good Will, Laurence, Lincoln, Mutual, Olympic and Osceola. The Pittsburgh Commercial, July 3, 1867 has the Good Will Club defeating the Dauntless (junior champions of Pittsburgh) 43-40. Same July 11, 1867 has these clubs playing for the junior championship of Pittsburgh, at "Oakland" (now a Pittsburgh neighborhood--"Oakland Park" grounds?). Same Sept. 2, 1869 has the Good Will club now named the New Irons. |
