Description | The Chicago Tribune, July 2, 1868 reports on a picnic in Hinsdale, for the benefit of a local Hinsdale church, featuring 2 baseball games: a junior game between the Pastime nine of Aurora and the Excelsior "Pony" team of Chicago, and the Excelsior Srs. vs. the Black Hawks of Aurora. The Pastimes won the junior game 18-12. The grounds were said to be in a fine grove just east of town, hard by the railroad tracks. |

Comment | The field may be the same as the "Walker's Grove" mentioned in the 1874 game. An 1869 map shows a "picnic park" on the north end of Elm, just north of the railroad tracks. At a guess, this is where the game was played. Edit with form to add a comment |
