Description | From Protoball Entry #1855c.14 – New York Game Comes to Rochester NY According to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle (August 6, 1869), the town's first team, the Live Oak Club, had formed in 1855. We seem not to have further corroboration of the date as of 10/12. In August 1858, the Live Oak Club beat the Flour Citys 24-13 and the new Olympic Club 65-10. The next month, "when they beat the Genesee Valley Club 39-7 in a contest played at the Monroe County Agricultural Fair, the became Rochester's first city champions." "The first baseball club in Rochester was organized about 1855. . . . The first club was the Olympics." "Baseball Half a Century Ago," Rochester Union and Advertiser, March 21, 1903. Other base ball pioneers have cited 1857 and 1858 for Rochester's first games. Information supplied by Priscilla Astifan, 2006-2007. |

Win/Loss Records As Far As We Now Know
Warning: Users should not rely on a team's won-loss record as a reflection of its "standing" among all base ball clubs. Team schedules were not balanced, and a good record against mostly weak opponents does not signify a leading club.
