Description | The Harrisburg Patriot, Oct. 18, 1866, has a long article on the Pennsylvania state base ball convention. Among the many teams mentioned as sending delegates was the Washington BBC of Reading. The Reading Times, April 23, 1866 says this club organized on the 13th, and is the only club in town. The club practices in the lot beyond the 6th Street Railroad Bridge. Same May 12, 1866 has this club losing to Pottstown, at Pottstown, 56-55 Saturday last. A wikipedia article says the "Reading Athletic Club" formed in 1858 and played baseball, presumably for recreation. Reading PA (1860 pop. about 23,000; 1870 pop. about 34,000)is about 50 miles NW of Philadelphia.
