Description | The Vincennes Times, Aug. 24, 1867, announces that the Excelsior BBC (boys) are to play "nine young men of this city." The game was reported in the Vincennes Weekly Sun, Aug. 31, 1867, with a box score.
"The first base ball club of prominence in Vincennes was organized in the early seventies, and Charley Jones, who was one of the best players in the Cincinnati team in after years, was a member. Note: The author does not assert that this was the initial Vincennes club. Vincennes is in the southwest corner of IN, about 120 miles SW of Indianapolis and 150 milies E of St. Louis. |
