The Chicago Tribune, July 27, 1867, has an extensive article on the State base ball convention. Among the clubs sending delegates was the Walnut of Alton.

At Jeff Kittel's "This Game of Games" website are references to the Active BBC of Alton, organized July 1866, playing Litchfield on Aug. 30, 1866; The Wide Awakes of Alton (1870); and the Shurtleff College BBC (1867) of "Upper" Alton.
