Tower and Ely may have played in 1889 (most of game account was clipped out from the June 20, 1889 issue of the Vermilion Iron Journal, Tower, Mn} Population of Ely in 1890 was 901......3,717 in 1900 and a high of 6,156 in 1930. Ely is in the NE corner of the state, about 250 miles NE of Minneapolis and 100 miles NE of Duluth.
