Description | The Ottawa Free Trader, Sept. 5, 1863 reports on a practice, in the field over the Fox River ("Campus Ludi"--evidently the future Shabbona Grounds), of the Union Base Ball and Wicket Club. It is unclear what kind of baseball this club played. In 1858 Marseilles played Ottawa's "Base Ball and Wicket Club" a game that was wicket. See Ottawa Free Trader, June 26, 1858. Unclear if this is the same club. |
