Description | The Canton Repository, Feb. 27, 1867 reports that there will be a meeting to organize a base ball club. Same, April 10, 1867 announces meeting of he new club. Same, May 15, 1867 reports that the Stark BBC of Canton beat the Sippo of Massillon 72-25, at Massillon. Gives box score. Both teams brand new.
The Canton Repository, July 24, 1867, reports that the Stark Club of Canton played the Sippo of Massillon Friday last (the 19th). Stark won the county championship, beating the Sippo 126-54. The Pittsburgh Commercial, July 8, 1867 reports that the Alleghany of Pittsburgh played the Stark of Canton at Canton on the 4th. Canton OH (1860 pop about 4,000; 1870 pop. about 8,600) is about 55 miles SE of Cleveland. It is in Stark County. |
