| Description | (6 innings) (2nd nines) (Brooklyn Daily Eagle (3): “We must beg leave to state that we hope both the Stars and Olympics can show better second nines than were on the field in this match, for there were only four of the Stars, Skaats, Forker, Morris and Gignoux, and five of the Olympics, Baldwin, Gilbert, Markham, Smith and Marvin, who could possibly have the slightest pretensions of being second nine players, in fact, the wonderful muffin playing of the balance of the eighteen, made us have strong doubts in regard to being anything better than a first class muffin match. We had heard that both clubs could turn out good second nines, and we went on the ground expecting to witness a good game, but I am sorry to say we were disappointed.”) |
