Description | The Jacksonville "New South" Aug. 5, 1874: headline "Base Ball at Lake City". Some members of the R. E. Lee BBC of Jacksonville are going to Lake City to watch a game between the DeSoto and the Garden City. The latter appear to be a Tallahassee team. The Savannah Morning News, July 26, 1875, reports that the Dixies of Savannah defeated the Lees of Jacksonville on 7-21, during their Florida tour. The Jacksonville New South, 8-12-74 has an ad for a meeting of the R. E. Lees, with W. H. Lucas, president, L. Haynes, Secy. Other issues for 1874 have Scott and Acosta as captains, Whitney and E. Bolles as members. Same 8-22-74 gives a box score for the Lee's intersquad game, played at their new park at Moncrief Springs. Same 7-15-74 has an ad for "Base Ball Goods,' sold at Santa Claus' Bazaar, Jacksonville. Moncrief Springs is now part of Jacksonville. It is off Moncrief Blvs. in the northern part of the city, north of 122 and south of 45th street.
