Description | The Geneseo Republic, July 13, 1866, under the heading "Base Ball" reports that the Wapello of Rock Island will play the Pioneer of Geneseo Friday, at Geneseo. Same, July 8, 1870, reports that the Pioneer played the Olympics of Sheffield on July 4th at Geneseo. Same Nov. 8, 1870 reports the Pioneer beating the Princeton club at Sheffield. The Chicago Tribune, July 27, 1867, has an extensive article on the State base ball convention. Among the clubs sending delegates was the Pioneer of Geneseo. The Springfield Daily Illinois State Journal May 14, 1868 reports on a state baseball convention which included delegates of clubs from Bloomington (Empire, Bloomington), Waukegan (Acme, Lake Shore); Champaign (Empire); and Geneseo (Pioneer). |
