Description | The St., Louis Globe Democrat, July 8, 1869, reports on a game between the Independent of Greenville and the Old Capitols of Vandalia. The Effingham Democrat, July 31, 1873: "Base Ball. At Vandalia. On Friday last, as was announced last week, the Fearless B.B.C. took up their line of march for Vandalia, where they arrived in due season, and met at the train by the Old Capitol B.B.C. ..." Effingham won. Vandalia was at one time capitol of Illinois, hence the team nickname. |
