Description | The Quincy Daily Herald, Aug. 22, 1866 reports on a game where the Occidentals of Quincy beat the Quincy BBC 61 to 32. Gives a box score. The Chicago Tribune, July 27, 1867, has an extensive article on the State base ball convention. Among the clubs sending delegates was the Occidental of Quincy. The Occidental Hotel, at 623 Hampshire St., was presumably connected with the team. “At a meeting held at Gymnasium Hall in this city on Friday the 29th ultim., after being called to order by the chairman and the minutes of a previous meeting read and approved, the committee which had been appointed to draw up a Constitution and By Laws . . . made their report. . . . After some debate it was decided by ballot that the Club be called and known as ‘The Occidental Base Ball Club of Quincy, Ill.’ . . . Mr. Farwell moved that all who had signed the proposal to organize a club should be considered members . . . “ elected new officers—C.H. Buss, esq. President; H.A. Farwell, vp; F. Bradley, secr; T.T. Woodruff, treas; E.H. Osborne, E.J. Parker and W.B. Bushnell, directors. “A motion was made by T.T. Woodruff and adopted that the score of all games up to the present time be destroyed.” Apptd committee to present honorary members. “The evenings of Monday, Wed., and Friday were appointed for exercise. Mr. Parker offered a motion which was adopted that a first nine be selected from the Club and that every Friday evening be set appart for a match on their part against the remainder of the Club.” Quincy Daily Herald, July 12, 1866 The new club played a practice game on July 4th.
