Description | The Cairo (IL) Daily Bulletin, Aug. 13, 1870, under the headline "Base Ball Yesterday" reports that the Delta Club of Cairo beat the Mound City Club of Mound City 55 to 18 at Cairo. This game was for the asserted "base ball championship of Southern Illinois." Same, July 30, 1870. 1873 issues of the Bulletin (cf July 18, 1873) mention the Pastimes and Riverside clubs of Mound City. The Modocs of Mound City were mentioned in the Bulletin 8-16-74. It appears Mound City was Cairo's bitter baseball rival. |
