Description | The Kendall County Record, Aug. 31, 1871, Oswego column: "At base balling last Saturday afternoon the McPhersons beat the Harvesters, a country club from out east on the prairie." The Oswego prairie was located east of Oswego along present day Wolf's Crossing Road. The areas was largely settled by German farmers in the 1840s and 1850s. The McPhersons were probably named after civil war general James B. McPherson, under whom many Oswegans served. (h/t to Oswego historian Roger Matile for the context on this game). |
