Description | "It was soon after close of the Civil War that the era of baseball in Baraboo began to dawn; and by the summer of 1867, it was pretty well organized, and going at full blast."[1] Baraboo WI is about 30 miles NW of Madison WI. This lovingly long article goes into detail about the old game: pitches were delivered below the waist, the ball was more elastic, high scoring, home-made bats, two local ballfields, "hot disputes" negotiated by the two captains, the advent of fast pitching, and distance-throwing contests [later]. |
