Description | The Chicago Tribune July 6, 1863 reports that base ball was played on the 4th, at Cold Spring Grove, during an excursion by the Fenian Brotherhood of Chicago. Same June 26, 1863 says that the Wabash Avenue Methodist excursion there featured "base ball and quoits." Cold Spring Grove was a camp/picnic ground near modern New Lenox, IL that was popular with religious and other groups. |
