Description | From William Humber, "Early Baseball in Canada" mauscript, 9/14/12. The notes of Robert Sellar used in the preparation of his History of the County of Huntingdon and Seigneuries of Chateauguay and Beauharnois printed in 1888 included references to a game of early baseball from around 1839 in Huntingdon, Quebec played between rival stage coach drivers and merchants of American descent. The play was described in a 1985 letter from Wayne McKell of St. Chrysostome, Quebec to Bill Humber. Multiple knock-on accounts render the description less reliable though clearly the influence for the play if real is American. |
