| Description | The New York Clipper, June 23, 1866 reports that the Hampden of Chicopee beat the Eagle of Florence 36-10. The Hampden Club of Chicopee defeated the Monitor of Holyoke 51-19 to retain the championship of Western Massachusetts and the silver ball. Worcester Massachusetts Spy, Nov. 2, 1866 Morris, "Base Ball Founders" pp. 276-277, etc. says this club claimed the championship of Western MA by defeating the Eagle and the Pioneer of Springfield. Within a year, the two clubs (Hampden and Pioneer) consolidated. |
