other matches covered during the summer of 1872. This is the first documented base ball game in the Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin twin ports area. The Duluth Tribune of June 29, 1870 mentioned the Meteor BBC of Superior had cleared their ground for the season and issued challenges for a game on July 4th; but further issues did not report if any game was played. Duluth population was 71 in 1860; 3,131 in 1870 and reached a high of 107,312 in 1960. It is about 150 miles NE of Minneapolis on the SW corner of Lake Superior. |
