Description | The Milwaukee Daily Sentinel, Sept. 2, 1867, cites the Lafayette County Union as reporting that Darlington recently lost a base ball game to Mineral Point, 40-34. Per Hibbard, "Platteville," p. 45, on June 8, 1867 the Normal School team lost to the Darlington BBC 16-15 at Strawberry Diggings in Lafayette County. Lafayette County Democrat, June 28, 1867, mentions this club. Looking Backwards article gives the score of every game this club played in 1867. They defeated Platteville 16-15, Shullsburg 56-38, 42-36, 57-32, Mineral Point 45-35, 60-30, 48-27, 40-34, 38-30. They lost to the Phoenix of Belvidere and the Riverside of Dixon (at Rockford). Darlington is the county seat of Lafayette County. It had 1,372 residents in 1880. |
