Description | The Decatur Republican, July 2, 1868, says the Contest BBC of Decatur will play the Eurekas of Clinton on July 4th. Several other baseball teams, such as the McPherson, are mentioned in other newspaper articles over the next couple years. Same, June 3, 1869 and May 12, 1870, announce the formation of a "colored club" in Decatur. Same Aug. 13, 1875, says the "Colored club" is to play the "White Stockings". Same, Sept. 14, 1875, reviews a "base ball game played by females from Springfield." |
