Description | Ellard, "Baseball in Cincinnati" p. 55-56 gives the scores of a baseball tournament held in Cincinnati in 1867. Among the local clubs mentioned are the Marions, Ironsides, Great Westerns, Gladiators, Indianolas, Live Oaks, Walnut Hills, Crescents, Crocketts, Baltics and Osceolas. Plus the Live Oaks, Eagles of Dayton KY and Reliables of Covington KY. The Cincinnati Daily Gazette, Aug. 10, 1867 reports that the Walnut Hills club defeated Clifton 77-9. The article points out that Walnut Hills is a senior team, whereas Clifton is a junior team. This club may be the Woodburn Club of Walnut Hills, mentioned in Cincinnati Enquirer, Oct. 12, 1867. Ellard calls the Woodburn a junior club. Walnut Hills is today part of Cincinnati. Cincinnati annexed it in 1869. |
