When promoter Henry Flagler built the Ponce de Leon Hotel in St. Augustine, he included a base ball field. On Feb. 14, 1890 Cap Anson's Chicago Colts played a team Flagler had assembled from hotel employees and several northern pros. Chicago won 11-5. The park was pronounced one of the best in the nation. See the Chicago Inter Ocean, Feb. 15, 1890 for a long article on the contest.
