Description | The Cass County Republican, May 26, 1859: "Match Game of Ball--A game of Base Ball was played on Saturday last in this village, for a supper, between the Dowagiac Base Ball Club and the Pokagon club. The Pokagaon boys came off victorious.... We understand that a return game will take place in Pokagon, in about two weeks." Same, June 9, 1859, reports that Dowagiac won the return game. "The game was 31 points, best two in three. There were eight on a side." The latter article suggests that the latest NY rules were, at a minimum, not strictly followed. A club of Pokagaon existed in 1867. See Kalamazoo Telegraph, July 10, 1867 |
