Description | The Centralia Daily Sentinel, Aug. 5, 1897 reports that a Mt. Vernon semi-pro team defeated McLeansboro yesterday 15-0. "Hamilton County, Illinois. Celebrating 175 Years" p. 128 has a photo of the 1899 McLeansboro High School baseball team. In 1900 McLeansboro had a club, the Maroons, that played semi-professionally. See St. Louis Post Dispatch, July 18, 1900. A look at the McLeansboro Times through 1880 finds no mention of local baseball. The town had 683 inhabitants in 1870, 1758 in 1900. |
