Description | Payne's 1911 "History of Story County" p. 390 gives an account of the first match game played in Story County, with Ames defeating Nevada 66-55 at the "Old South Square." Says that baseball in the country started in 1867. The Ames Daily Tribune, March 16, 1954, says that Ames' first baseball club was organized in 1877. |
