Description

The Albany News, Sept. 20, 1870: "our young men have at last organized a base ball club" with W. P. Burks as Secy. Wiley Pope Burks (1846-1912) was a book keeper in 1870 and court clerk in 1880.

Weekly Sumter Republican July 14, 1882, the “colored” club of Albany has challenged the colored club of Americus.

Albany had 2101 residents in 1870.
