Description | The Daily Miners Register [Central City, CO] July 17, 1867 reports on a contest between the newly organized Black Hawk, CO team and the team of Central City. The game was played in Black Hawk (a town adjacent to Central City) on "Bobtail Hill" "last Saturday." It was called after two innings wth Central City leading 37 to 1. The article notes that the majority of Black Hawk players "had never played the game" before, and that the team had only been organized 10 days prior to the game. This may be the Lilies Club. The Central City Daily Register Sept. 18, 1870 has the Stars beating the Lilies of Black Hawk 42-28, yesterday on "Bobtail Hill." Gives a box score. The Lillies are mentioned in The New York Clipper, Oct. 8, 1870. Black Hawk CO (1870 pop. about 1,100) is about 35 miles W of Denver and 1 mile E of Central City CO. |
