Description | The Janesville Gazette reported that Beloit papers had reported a base ball match between the Forest City club of Rockford (Illinois) and the Badgers of Beloit, in which the Badgers gave up in the 8th inning, being beaten 48 to 8.[1] A later issue of the Gazette reported in Beloit that the previous week, 4,000 were on the grounds to witness a game played between the Freeport and Beloit boys. It is unknown if this is the Badgers or the Olympians of Beloit College.[2] According to the New York Clipper article on the Northwest Baseball convention, Jan. 5, 1867, this club was organized June 21, 1866 and had 67 members. W. B. Westcott and C. Ingersoll were delegates.
