The Phi Kappa Club of Girard played the Athletics of Carlinville at College Park, Carlinville (presumably the campus grounds of Blackburn College) on June 17, 1867, the home team winning by 9. See Carlinville Democrat, June 20, 1867. The Athletics were the leading club of the town in 1867.
Carlinville town/township had 5808 residents in 1870. The local newspaper estimated the town had 3500 residents in 1867 (Carlinville Democrat, Oct. 10, 1867)
