| Description | Peter Morris et al, editors, "Base Ball Pioneers, 1850-1870" mentions the Androscoggins of Lewiston playing in 1866. Lewiston Evening Journal, May 21, 1861 mentions a meeting of this club. Same July 6, 1861 reports on a game played July 4 between the two nines of the club. Lewiston ME (1860 pop. about 7,500; 1870 pop. about 13,500) is about 40 miles N of Portland. |
