Description | The Sterling Gazette, Aug. 11, 1866: "Base Ball--A match game of base ball was played at Dixon on Thursday last" between the Clipper of Rochelle and the "Dixon Club of Dixon. Rochelle won. The article mentions that 20 members of the "S. B. B. C." took a train from Sterling to be in attendance. Presumably, these initials stand for the Sterling Base Ball Club. The Whiteside Chronicle, Aug. 30, 1870 gives the box score of a game in Sterling Aug. 15 between this club and the Geneseo Plow Boys. The Sterling Gazette, July 21, 1866 announced the formation of the Sterling BBC. |
