Description | The Decatur Republican, Sept. 19, 1867 reports that the Liberty Club of Springfield participated in the Decatur base ball tournament that week. The Quincy Daily Herald, Aug. 18, 1869 reports that on Aug. 17th the Occidental Jr. Club of Quincy beat the Liberty BBC of Springfield 34-29 for the junior championship of Illinois. This suggests that the Liberty formed a Junior club. The Chicago Tribune, July 2, 1870, reports that last Wednesday at Champaign, in a highly anticipated match, the Liberty Club of Springfield beat the Empire Club of Champaign 73 to 35. |
