The Columbus Ohio State Journal, April 24, 1860: "Ball playing is getting to be quite the rage with young men and boys in this city. Every day large parties are to be seen, with ball clubs, proceeding with merry conversation and good-natured jokes, to some of the numerous 'commons' surrounding the city, for a hearty game of 'base ball' or 'old two cat'."
