Description

The Chicago Inter Ocean, Nov. 3, 1889:

"About Fort Sheridan. A Military Post in Construction on the Outskirts of Chicago....

The daylight amusement which diverted the [enlisted] men last summer was base-ball. They became infatuated with this."

In June 1896 the club of Everett (Lake Forest) defeated the soldiers of Fort Sheridan 6-5 in a rain-shortened 4 inning game. See Lake County Independent, June 12, 1896.
