Description

The Columbus Daily Enquirer, Oct. 26, 1870, “Fun at the Fair: We also learn that the Atlanta, West Point, and Montgomery Base Ball Clubs will contest with the Independents of our city for the premium offered to the best “base ballists.””

This is probably the Olympian Club of West Point, which on the 18th of that October beat the Montgomery AL Bonnie Blues. The Savannah Daily Advertiser, Oct. 22, 1870: "Base Ball Notes...At Opelika, Ala. on the 18th, a game was played between the Olympians of West Point, Ga., and the Bonnie Blues of Montgomery, resulting in a defeat for the Alabama boys by a score of 74 to 30."

This is the Olympic Club which played LaGrange in September. See La Grange Reporter, Sept. 2, 1870.

West Point GA (1870 population about 1400) is on the Alabama border and about 80 miles SW of Atlanta.
