Description

The Chicago "Workingman's Advocate," June 23, 1866 reports that on July 4 there will be a unionman's picnic at "Woodville" on the Illinois Central Railroad. Baseball will be played there.

The Western Railroad Gazette, July 17, 1858 recommends Hyde Park as a good place to picnic and enjoy "a good game of base ball."

Woodville Station is/was in Hyde Park, then a township, now a part of Chicago.
