Description

The Boston Daily Advertiser, Sept. 17, 1866 has the following clubs forming a MA Rules Base Ball Assn.: Excelsior of Upton, Peabody of Danvers, Alpha of Ashland, Wyoma of Lynn, Liberty of Danvers, Active of Salem, Wencehuse of Lynn, Union of Danvers, Warren of South Danvers, Warren of Randolph, Kearsarge of Stoneham.

In Oct. of 1866 the Kearsarge played the Alpha of Ashland on the Boston Common for the MA Rules Championship of New England. The Kearsarge were leading 18-9 when the game was called, due to a dispute with the umpires. See Springfield Republican, Oct. 9, 1866.

See also Morris, "Base Ball Founders" pp. 304-308. The club switched to the national rules in 1868.
