Description | From Protoball Entry #1845.18 – On "Second Anniversary," The NY Club Plays Intramural Game "NEW YORK BASE BALL CLUB: The second Anniversary of the Club came off yesterday, on the ground in the Elysian fields." The game matched two nine-player squads, and ended with a 24-23 score. "The Club were honored by the presence of representatives from the Union Star Cricket Club, the Knickerbocker Clubs, senior and junior, and other gentlemen of note." NY Club players on the box score included Case, Clair, Cone, Gilmore, Granger, Harold, Johnson, Lalor, Lyon, Murphy, Seaman, Sweet [on both sides!], Tucker, Venn, Wheaton, Wilson, and Winslow. Posted to 19CBB by John Thorn, 3/31/2008. Source: The New York Herald, November 11, 1845. This club is thought to be the one that faced the Knickerbockers in their famous "first match game" in June 1846, although they were actually a reconstituted version of the Gothams of New York. See http://protoball.org/Gothams_Club_of_New_York for more details. |

Win/Loss Records As Far As We Now Know
Warning: Users should not rely on a team's won-loss record as a reflection of its "standing" among all base ball clubs. Team schedules were not balanced, and a good record against mostly weak opponents does not signify a leading club.
