Description	Jesse Ziegler, Wave of the Gulf (San Antonio, 1938), p. 183 mentions a game played there in 1865, under the New York rules, between a “crack team of the different [federal army] regiments stationed there” This may have been the first actual game played in TX under the NY rules. The troops were part of a Union army occupation force landed there immediately after the war.
