Description

The Daily Alta California, Oct. 30, 1869 prints a letter from San Jose which reports that the Aetna Club of Santa Clara College beat the Star Club of San Jose in a base ball game by 31 runs.

The San Jose Mercury-News, Nov. 2, 1869 has more on this game, which was won by Santa Clara 51-20. Same, Nov. 13, 1869, has the Stars the club of the San Jose Institute.

San Jose had 9,089 residents in 1870. It was incorporated in 1850.
