Description | The Montana Post (Virginia City) May 26, 1866, says "the young men of the city are organizing a base ball club." Same, June 2, 1866, reports the game between the two nines of the "Rocky Mountain Base Ball Club", won by the first nine by "thirty-three points" (121 to 88). F. G. Heidt is captain of the first nine. A roster is given. This game was played "near the new burying-ground"--presumably Boot Hill, just north of town. Virginia City MT (current pop. 125)is about 60 miles SW of Bozeman MT. |
