Description

"At a recent meeting of the Pride of the South Base Ball Club, the following officers were elected: President, D.S. Dodds; Vice-President, D. Eagan; Secretary, Wm. Wetter; Treasurer, J. Leslie."1

"There was quite an interesting game of base ball yesterday between the R.E. Lee and the Pride of the South clubs--the score stood 30 to 33 in favor of the R.E. Lee." Memphis Public Ledger, Nov. 19, 1866.2

In a Memphis Daily Appeal article dated September 12, 1867 about a state convention of base ball clubs, the Pride of the South Club is mentioned.

Additional notes from Jeff Kittel, 12/3/2012:

A January 1867 article exhorted club members to pay their dues or risk "public expulsion" from the club.

A July 1868 article notes that the club was playing in a series of games for the championship of West Tennessee.

Win/Loss Records As Far As We Now Know

Warning: Users should not rely on a team's won-loss record as a reflection of its "standing" among all base ball clubs. Team schedules were not balanced, and a good record against mostly weak opponents does not signify a leading club.
