Description | The New Orleans Times Picayune, Dec. 21, 1869 mentions the Pickwick Club. It's also mentioned in Beadle (1870) pp. 59-60 as playing the Lone Star. Same Aug. 29, 1881 gives the box core of a ball game between the Brennans, a top (white) local bbc, and the Pickwicks, composed of "young colored men." The long article gives a box score and roster of the teams. Brennans won, 13-10. This Pickwick club was organized in 1876. See Brunson, "Black Baseball" |
