Description | The Extempore Club (of "Old Town") played the New San Diego Club (Ullman's, of "New Town") on May 26, 1871. The latter won 48-35. See McGrew, "City of San Diego" p. 99. This may be the first match game in the city's history. At the time, "old town" and "new town" were separate neighborhoods.
